Months-long stability of the head-direction system

By longitudinally tracking head-direction cells for several months, we show that the internal organization of population activity is preserved, as well as the mapping between this internal organization and the external world.

Visual objects refine head direction coding

By showing mice images of real objects versus scrambled versions of the objects, we demonstrate that the head-direction system is preferentially activated by images of real objects. This is surprisingly not observed in areas related to the visual system. Additionally, we find that visual objects refine coding of head direction.

Local origin of excitatory–inhibitory tuning equivalence in a cortical network

We recorded in the cortical area of the head-direction system, where the majority of excitatory neurons are tuned to head-direction. By decomposing tuning curves using the Fourier transform, we show an equivalence in tuning between head-direction and inhibitory cells in this region.

Hyperpolarization-activated currents drive neuronal activation sequences in sleep

We characterize the sequential activation seen along the dorsoventral axis in the postsubiculum during NREM sleep. Results suggest spatial gradients in I_h result in the observed dynamics.

Systems consolidation impairs behavioral flexibility

We tested the effect of memory consolidation on behavioural flexibility, or the animals' ability to adapt to changes in value as well as changes in optimal sequence of actions. We find evidence to suggest that memory consolidation reduces flexibility, particularly for changes in the optimal sequence of actions.
